Free Revit Architecture textures
February 27th, 2012, 1:00AM
I came across a post on Twitter today advertising for some free textures for Revit. If you are anything like me and enjoy rendering in Revit then you will know that although there is a decent collection, you are often missing the correct texture. LG Hausys have released a series of HI-MAC textures available for Windows and Mac users. The textures (a selection in the image below) concsist of 109 different stones / stone finishes. The images are all high quality and very suitable for rendering as tested this afternoon.
Revit and all things BIM
January 16th, 2012, 9:15AM
Good morning all! Below you will find a list of websites, which offer external solutions for Revit. All of these I have tried out myself and would recommend. I’ll try to keep this post updated as the sites change or new ones are created. If there are any other programs/websites which you would advise, then drop me a line, and I will add it to the list. This list was compiled mainly from the All things BIM blog.
Thou shalt obey: The BIMandments
January 14th, 2012, 3:40PM
Over the last week or so, there has been a new trend sweeping through the BIM community on twitter. The idea; sharing your opinions on the most important rules to follow when working with BIM. The #BIMandments as they were so named by @AYBABTM from @case_inc has seen over 50 BIM crazy users tweeting their advice for others, with well over 500 tweets in total.

Just a quick post to let you all know that I will be uploaing a starters guide to Project Vasari and Project Storm over the next few days. If you have not already experimented with them, I will be giving a simple tutorial to follow to get to grips with the programs. From what I have seen both programs are extremely user friendly, working in the Revit Architecture / Structure 2012 interfaces. Look forward to hearing some responses about how everyone else is getting on with Vasari and Storm, and to what practical uses they have been applied! Hope you all have a great day and report back tomorrow for more!

Playing around in Revit
February 8th, 2012, 10:14AM
Hey guys! So, I have been playing around in Revit over the last few days, making a design for a friend who wanted a 3D commemorative plaque with the Manchester United logo on it. Now I am fully aware this is not what Revit was designed to do and I'm sure there are other programs which could do the job more efficiently, but as I love doing basically everything in Revit, I thought I'd give it a go and see how the results turned out!
Video: Revit coordinate system
February 14th, 2012, 9:21AM
So I found this video this morning via Luke Johnson on twitter who runs whatrevitwants blog. This is a YouTube video describing the project coordinate system in Revit. There are a lot of potential problems to run into when dealing with the coordinate system. This video gives a good overall and detailed explanation of how to set up the system in your Revit project. The authour of the video cwm9 on YouTube also discusses: Project and survey points, coordinates, clipped and unclipped modes and finally true north settings in Revit.

IMAGINiT Technologies have released Clarity for Revit Server. This tool can be used along side Revit Server to enhance and boost your collaboration and privacy options. Revit Server can be difficult to set up if you do not have experience with it, for example; adding and modifying user permissions on particular projects / files.
Rapid Energy Modeling
March 2nd, 2012, 9:39AM
I found this series of interesting tutorials on YouTube posted by Simon Gillis from Autodesk on the Sustainable Toolbox YouTube channel. The videos focus on using 123D Catch to capture an existing building and create a mass out of the scan. Following on from this, it will then be possible to peform energy analysis on the mass to provide a good estimate of current energy conditions of the building. As well as the possibility to simulate future changes.
Autodesk Labs: Revit add-ins
March 10th, 2012, 4:59AM
Autodesk Labs have released a Plug in of the month section of their website with "Past, Present and future" applications added as created. There are three main sections of plugins: Autodesk inventor, Revit and 3Ds Max. I have tried out all of the Revit plugins and am also interested in the others which I have not had time to get round to testing yet.
