Two polymorphic systems, ABO blood groups and haptoglobin types, for 100 families with 281 living children from Patiala have been analysed to test the possible interaction between them.  The interaction was seen in: (a) mother-child combinations and (b) different mating classes.  Significant differences were seen in the ABO compatible and incompatible mother-child combinations. Hp1 gene frequency was high in the ABO incompatible combinations than the compatible.  Likewise when the different matings (H X W) were divided into ABO compatible and incompatible, there was an excess of Hp1 gene frequency in the ABO incompatible matings.

Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental and industrial pollutant that adversely affects human and animal health. This study was carried out to investigate the toxic effects of Cd on liver and testis of albino mice. Cadmium administration led to significant (P<0.001) reduction in weight of liver and testes. Histopathological analysis in liver revealed oedema, vacuolation, lymphocytic infilteration and hyperaemia, numerous pyknotic, degenerative and binucleated nuclei, giant cell and kupffer cells at the sites of damage were also visible. Alterations in testA were in the form of degenerated germinal layer, almost complete loss of spermatogenic activity and leydig cell lysis. In the present study testis were found to be more sensitive to Cd than liver.

Fecundity of Lepidocephalus guntea belonging to Nadia district of West Bengal was estimated. It ranged from 550 to 9615.714 in total body length measuring 8.2.to 9.5 cm and total weight ranging from 4.150 to 8.100 g, respectively. The average fecundity was determined to be 4852.512. Number of eggs per gm body weight and number of eggs per cm body length was found to be average 816.508 eggs/gm and 557.183 egg/cm, respectively. The relationship between fecundity and total body length, total weight, ovary weight and also between ovary weight and total length have been determined. The different results obtained were analyzed statistically.
